Amy I had to substitute ham for prosciutto. I fried it in olive oil with minced garlic. And I was unable to find arugula so fresh spinach to the rescue. It was still good! GeorgiaThis week I made Strawberry Meringue Cookies with my step daughter Savannah. She made the comment that she was struggling with making meringue. Found this simple recipe on Better Homes and Gardens Amy, Savannah and Georgia

It was another amazing week. Loved working on the minky baby blanket. I LOVE seeing Nikita's beautiful cakes.
Oh and this week got a little brighter. My sweet step daughter arrived safely. Randy and I get to enjoy the next couple of weeks with her. Georgia and Nikita Amy I like making treats for Trixie, so I offered to make some for my friend's dog. Trixie isn't particularly fussy about the aesthetics but I wanted to impress this other dog with my dog treats and be declared a favorite among humans. So I broke out my Halloween bone shaped cookie cutter. These treats practically look gourmet. Funny that I am unable to make pretty baked goods for humans. It's about the love! These are simple to make and I've yet to see a dog reject them. And some dogs are picky eaters. I'm sure Gigi will say something about how they lick their butts (She has an obsession with butt licking) but that still doesn't mean that they will eat just any brand of dog food. Peanut Butter Dog Treats 2 cups flour (I use whole wheat) 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter 3 eggs Combine the ingredients in a bowl. Add a little water if necessary. Roll out on a lightly floured surface and cut out with a cookie cutter or a glass. Place on a cookie sheet or two and bake at 350°F oven for around 12-15 minutes. Allow to cool completely then start slinging them at any random dog, friend or foe. GeorgiaHaving baked the chiffon cake this week I didn't want to bake another sweet.
So I thought I'd share my finished sewing project. Reversible places-mats. One side is an old beige tablecloth lined with brown corduroy and the other is a coordinating brown print. I'm always on the hunt for fun new uses for fabrics that would normally be tossed because it has a little stain somewhere on it. My next project is making minky baby blankets. We'll see how they turn out. Until next week, Amy and Georgia Amy I receive many food-related emails from various sources. Bloggers, Food companies, and magazines to name a few. Recently I was scanning my email when one from Taste of Home got my attention. "We tried ice cream bread". Say what??? Another culinary mash up that's pure lunacy? Contraire mon frere! This is quite genius. 2 to 3 ingredients in 30 minutes(including bake time). I am in! In the end you get a moist and spongy unadorned cake, of sorts. Ice cream and self-rising flour. The ice cream has all of the wet ingredients contained within. Rather brilliant. The ice cream flavor is your choice. When some thought coupling the right ice cream with seasonal fruit would make for a quick dessert. I was in the mood for a more decadent ice cream so I went with Ben and Jerry's Phish Food. I topped the still warm bread with a dollop of some homemade whipped cream. This would be a clever idea for gift giving. Or perhaps baking several loaves with different ice cream flavors and slicing them up and serve on a tray at a party. Less time consuming and less stress! Ice Cream Bread 1 cup ice cream of choice, softened 3/4 cup self-rising flour 1 tablespoon sugar Mix ingredients together( you don't even need a mixer) and pour into loaf pan. Bake at 350°F for 25 minutes. Another option is to bake it in a tart pan for 20 minutes. Slice it up like a pie and serve it topped with a scoop of ice cream. If you try this please let us know what you think. GeorgiaA little meal prep for the work week ahead. I'm usually out the door by 7am and let's face it. On a normal day eating at that time of day is not appetizing. So I'll try to make myself a little something to take to work to have for breakfast. But who has time (or more importantly) who wants to make something at 6ish in the morning. So I've made up these little ramekins of eggy goodness Super easy, add whatever yummies sound good to you. For mine: 6 - 8 eggs grated cheddar cheese 3-4 strips of bacon (I precooked mine) Mix all together pour into 4 ramekin sized dishes (make sure they are oven proof) Bake for 30 minutes in a 350 oven Side note: I have in the past added sauteed onions, chopped tomatoes. I've seen where someone added fresh spinach. So many great options to add Until next week
