Georgia Apples + cinnamon = a winning combo I've been seeing apple fritters EVERYwhere. I'm dying.. So I made this yummy but still not an apple fritter Cinnamon Swirl Apple Fritter Bread I dare say it's MUCH better than banana pudding but maybe not macarons. I did not add the sugar glaze for it. NikitaWe harkened back to our southern roots this week with a veggie dinner of Collard Greens, Black-Eyed Peas, and Sweet Mashed Potatoes. Vegetable dinners are amazing topped with that green Jalepeno Tabasco Sauce. Try it. Of course, a dinner like that needs to be followed up with Southern Banana Puddin', and oh. my. word! First - you NEED to make this a day ahead. The recipe says give it 2-3 hours to sit in the fridge before consuming, but it really tasted its best the following day. I had Banana Puddin' for breakfast AND dinner yesterday. I mean, people eat bananas for breakfast, right? 🤷🏻♀️ Cammy I decided I was going to try to bake macarons today. I finally got up the nerve to give it a go. Well, they look deformed and taste delicious! I will definitely try these again. I was surprised that they called for turmeric! I also think that, should I make this kind again, I will add a small amount of powdered sugar to the filling. It's a great time to bake!
Until next week, Georgia, Nikita and Cammy NikitaHere is a birthday cake I made for a bright and beautiful 5-yr old. This is a 6" 3-layer White Cake with American Buttercream. It looks gorgeous, but challenges occurred. My original plan was to use Swiss Meringue Buttercream, but I could not get the texture right. It seemed so grainy even after heating the egg whites and sugar over boiling water. So that went in the trash. Then I made traditional American Buttercream, but my house was so warm that it kept melting in my piping bag while I was piping it. I'd have to stop and put it in the fridge to chill it. I ended up making a new batch because eventually my cream split and the butter began to separate from the sugar. Extremely frustrating. But in the end, I can say that I didn't give up and eventually prevailed. Enjoy the fun video below! Cammy There is nothing that goes better with leftover chili than honey corn muffins! :)
NikitaI find that the word pudding is loosely interpreted around the world. For example, Bread Pudding is shredded, day-old bread baked in a custard. Yorkshire Pudding looks like a fluffy, over-the-top biscuit with gravy. But Brownie Pudding --> This. Right. Here. Is. Pudding. The recipe came together in under 10 mins, but it took an hour to bake which worked well during our carpool soccer night. I popped it into the oven and made it back with a few minutes to spare on the timer. When it came out of the oven, the top was hard but it jiggled with a little shake of the pan. The brownie pudding seemed undercooked, but it was not. It was in the oven for 60 whole minutes, and it's supposed to be a pudding texture. I used the Hershey's Special Dark Chocolate Cocoa Powder which made this dessert very rich. A wonderful weeknight dessert if you have errands to run. Cammy It's fall all y'all! Continuing the gourd theme, I've made these wonderful pumpkin snickerdoodle cookies. I typically steer clear of any recipe that calls for any portion of it to be refrigerated for any length of time. Likely, had I read the recipe ahead of time, I'd have chosen something different. C'est la vie! These were absolutely worth the wait! Next time I make this, I may add a tsp of pumpkin pie spice.

Nikita Focaccia Bread Art Nikita's baking is on fire!
Cammy & I just like dessert. Until next week, Georgia, Cammy and Nikita Cammy
Nikita Everything on this cake is homemade. Cookies, macarons, beautiful flowers and of course the cake
Kudos to Nikita for another gorgeous cake Cammy When he brings home huge amounts of rhubarb and you still have rhubarb from last year in the freezer, what do you do? Well, today I made a rhubarb pineapple upside down cake. I have to say, this one is an absolute win! I will figure out what to do with the rest of it tomorrow or even the day after. I suspect a rhubarb crumble may also be in our future Georgia This is a great cheater dessert. We had some apples that were pretty close to the end of their life and some refrigerated crescent rolls. Super simple. You can either use apple pie filling. It make your own. Take your crescent triangles and line a cupcake tin. Fill each with the apple pie filling, fold over the triangle part of your crescent. Bake for about 15 minutes in a 350 oven. Glaze is nothing more than milk and powdered sugar. I added a little cinnamon because.. Cinnamon. Nikita One of Nikita's beautiful cakes she's made this week. I love that we were all in the kitchen this week.
It's fun looking at all the bakes.. I might be slightly biased but Nikita has such a great gift and I love how she shares it with the people she loves. Cammy, Georgia and Nikita NikitaI'd like to think that I could cross this challenge off my bucket list, but I feel I can do better. Jelly Roll cakes have always impressed me. I remember making one with my mom during my middle school years (back when you could bring baked goods to school). It was a Black Forest cake with chocolate and cherry flavors, but I didn't remember the difficulty of it. This particular recipe calls for a very light, fragile and fluffy carrot cake to be rolled up. Trying to remove this from the pan onto a kitchen towel proved to be extraordinarily challenging. I had to recruit help from ye ol' teenager. Anyways, part of my cake broke. 😭 But the picture above was what I saved. The flavors were incredible, and we enjoyed it during our Labor Day celebrations! Carrot Cake is among one of my most favorite desserts. Next time, I would also whip the frosting with my new KitchenAid whisk versus the mixer attachment because I felt it was a little thick. I like a fluffy frosting. Next time, for sure!
Georgia What to do with leftover key lime juice? Make whatever you want! The crinkle cookies are the hubs favorite type of cookie and he LOVES key lime pie. Key Lime crinkle cookies = match made in heaven Cammy Sometimes you just have to go with the tried and true. I needed to use up a tone of blueberries, so blueberry pie yet again has graced our plates. Baking in the kitchen is some of the best therapy. This week was much needed.
Enjoy! Georgia and Cammy Cammy It seems to be a cookie time of year. Perhaps I'm just practicing to find the cookies I want to make for Christmas. :) These Coconut Pecan cookies came out very good. They have to be eaten fairly quickly though, as they dry out fast, even in the sealed cookie bin! It doesn't give a bake time. I ended up making these probably double in size and baked them around 12-14 minutes.
